PaganSoc Work (3)

Filed under: College Society — Ryan @ 12:39 pm

Oh yes, I am God! Guess who has access to the email records for the netsoc account. It’s pretty much all spam too.

Anywho the website is going so well, I’m so proud of it, which is weird becuase usually I think everything I do is crap till someone else says otherwise, but this is really just that good. It’s a web-nerd’s wet dream. I’d say it’ll be only days till it’s finished. I’m putting the launch date as September 3rd 2007.

The Road to Hell is Paved with Good Intentions

Filed under: Personal — Ryan @ 6:26 pm

Quite angry, mostly at myself, because I can’t seem to learn the above lesson.

Apparently, according to Cheryl, the reason for this discrepancy between the way I am/act (because I am very much myself and proud of it) and the way people see me is all in my birthchart. So for whatever reason the universe seems to think it’s a good idea to throw up interference between the reality of me and what everyone sees and hears.

Which is really annoying (and I know, even among my friend there are people who face struggles so great in just being themselves I couldn’t even imagine it, but these are mine and these are what I understand to be struggles) because no matter what I do, because I am driven by so force that has always been with me, I am always going to be myself, and causes enough problems. So lets start from the beginning, ok, if people are born with the sexuality that they have then I’m already born with a fight on my hands (thank you society), add to that a higher than average IQ (not bragging), as many of you know that a problem for a lot of people. So I was born with built-in social problems, was it really necessary then to add in the distortion?

I sick and tired of constantly trying to help others only for every other thing I do and say to be picked-up wrong and to have people angry at me for something I didn’t do (and here’s the real kicker) and would never do, and anyone who knows should know that I would never do.

What I need is an Emotishirt. A T-shirt that instead of a logo would have my current mood on it. So people wouldn’t think that I was being serious when I was only joking, or that I was depressed/moody when really I was quite happy working away on my laptop with my Skittles or think I’m dissing their degree when I’m trying to comfort them. And this is what I’m talking about anyone who knows anything about me should know I would never do that! All I ever do is try to help people, I just want my friends and people I like to be happy or at least comforted. Good god it’s not like I ask for much in return.

Quite frankly I’m furious right now.

PaganSoc Work (2)

Filed under: College Society — Ryan @ 9:30 pm

Here’s an update on the things I planed on doing in the last post.

Done:
The Site/Forum/Gallery: Single Login
The Gallery: User Submissions

To Do:
The Forum: Porting the Theme
Haven’t started this yet. SMF’s theme isn’t hugely overcomplicated, mostly I’ll just have to get a sence of the geography of the code.
The Gallery: Porting the Theme
Not really going to have to now. I can embed the gallery into the site itself so all I have to do now is change the colours, mostly black and white. So that’s as good as done.

Not Going to be Done:
The Gallery: Upload Alerts to Monitor
Unfortunately there is no way of doing this. Whoever ahs the job is going to have to do it the old fashioned way.

Unless I hear a good reason not to I plan on going ahead with the idea of giving people their logins when and only when they join.

The plan is your username will be your Membership Number and the password will be randomly generated. (You can then choose a nickname to show up for you so that when you post you’re not just 027 or 052 etc. and you can of course change your password) This means that we can remove all accounts (except admins/committee) at the end of the year and start fresh again the following year with the same system.

Also it will make things easier on the committee as these accounts will be manually set-up. A risky, but pratical, idea would be to have the accounts already created, the person behind the table at Freshers’ Week would then give them the password for their number. The risk being in having a list with all accounts’ passwords on it. But if there is only one and it is kept safe with whoever is behind the table (never on it) and is locked-up afterwards, there really shouldn’t be a problem.

Another bonus to this is it will encourage people to go on the website.

PaganSoc Work

Filed under: College Society — Ryan @ 9:00 pm

Work started in earnest today for next years PaganSoc. I’ve already sorted and filed the financial records and today I started on the website. Well at 17.20 anyway. So far we have an RSS Feed, a new self maintaining newsletter that sends whatever is posted on the site to all subscribers, an automated dropdown box for the themes (all I have to do now is upload a new theme and it appears on the list), the archive list automatically updates, and now anything that goes on the site will be posted automatically on Lord Socky’s LJ so you can keep up-to-date on LiveJournal as well through your friends page.

Things to come include the forum (all I have to do is port the present themes for the site onto it, I’m also going to try to have it so that you only need the one login for site, forum and gallery), and I’m going to have to port the same themes to our gallery and I’m thinking of having user submissions (it will have to be monitored I know but if we’re going to have a forum then there’ll be someone doing it anyway, can probably get it to email them when someone uploads something).

One other thing and if I can get the one log-in thing to work then this is what I’ll do, on Freshers’ Week (or whenever you join) that’s when you get your online account. So only members can access commenting, posting, uploading, etc. Everyone can still view the site of course.

If anyone has ideas for the website speak now or forever hold your peace, because when I say the site is done, that’s it I’m not going back to it, it’s only adding content from then on. Other things to do, still have to do next years posters, I have templates but the big problem is that we can’t book anywhere for Freshers’ Week yet. Anyway, will have Samhain’s done (25th October at 7pm in The Blue Room, just so you know).

Master Who

Filed under: TV — Ryan @ 8:08 pm

I knew it, I knew, I knew it!!! The moment the Face of Boe said it I knew it. The Daleks, the Cybermen and who was missing. But he should be dust. What the hell happened? Was there a trial? Was he alive for the war? How does he even have any lives left??? This is great, really it doesn’t get any better than this.

There was a time when I was sacred that it would be the Monk rather then him they’d bring back. This is sooo cool!!!

Something for the Summer

Filed under: Music, YouTube Finds — Ryan @ 6:22 pm

I just put together my first YouTube playlist. Seeing as some people are feeling a little down I wanted to put all the music videos that remind me of the true meaning of summer in one place for all to see. Enjoy.

De Niro’s Hamlet

Filed under: YouTube Finds — Ryan @ 11:52 am

Ok, so I have a clip of FilmFour’s “Hamlet” on YouTube, the scene where he’s in blockbusters. Anyway I got a video response to it the other day and here it is.
